Dehydrator to return to Duncan July 29 to benefit Duncan band program

Jun 21, 2023

Bicyclists take off during last year’s Dehydrator bike ride. This year’s ride will kick off at 7 a.m. on Saturday, July 29 at the Simmons Center.

An early morning bike ride with a couple hundred bicyclists, a variety of courses and the sounds of music from the Duncan High School band program will be the key highlights of the annual Dehydrator bike ride coming up on the last Saturday in July.

The Dehydrator, a yearly fundraiser for the Duncan band program, draws riders from all over the state of Oklahoma. That’ll be no different this year when riders descend on Duncan Saturday, July 29 for the annual ride that will benefit high school musicians.

Last year, the ride drew in about 350 bicyclists for the cause, though in years past it has brought between 500 to 600. That cause helps raise funds for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year and is put on annually by the Duncan Band Boosters.

Money raised helps purchase instruments and equipment, food to feed the Middle School and High School Bands and covers travel expenses and trailers.

The event includes a variety of courses, ranging from 10 miles all the way to 80 miles. Registration costs vary depending on which course the rider selects.

Without the event, it would prove difficult for Duncan’s band program to fund what the students need.

Event registration has been extended through Monday, July 24. Registration will also be available on the morning of the event but those who wait to register may be limited to certain t-shirt sizes.

The ride starts at 7 a.m. July 30 and will begin at The Simmons Center. Registration on the morning of the event will take place before the 7 a.m. start time.

More information is available on The Dehydrator website at thedehydrator.org and those interested can register on Bikereg.com. The Simmons Center is located at 800 Chisholm Trail Parkway in Duncan.
